I created Truth Portal as an act of direct seeing. The great eye rests on the third eye, a symbol of facing what is real without turning away. Truth is not always gentle. Sometimes it is harsh, exposed, undeniable. Yet clarity is power. To look unblinkingly is to awaken. Behind the eye, bands of Fire and Water move together. Anger and sorrow. Strength and softness. Both rise when we recognize the full spectrum of existence. There is malevolence and there is kindness. There is hate and there is love. Each of us must decide where we stand.
Truth Portal was among my most technically demanding works, requiring more than fifty hours of focused creation. Hand dyed wool is combined with natural and synthetic fibers to build layered structure, movement, and symbolism. Designed as both adornment and invocation, the piece fits a 24 inch head. In these images I am wearing a one of a kind ice dyed rayon dress by the incomparable Bonnie Zimmer, and its luminous color brings forward my real eyes, echoing the gaze of the portal itself.
