Sol Cycle: Winter is a freeform crochet fiber artwork created in 2023 as part of Sol Cycle, a four-piece series representing the seasons. Each work contains a sun, a universal symbol of continuity and return.
Winter represents the season of pause. It is the time of rest, grief, introspection, and endurance. Though the landscape appears dormant, the sun continues to rise, reminding us that emotional states are temporary and cycles always move forward.
Originally displayed as a complete set, this piece is now being offered individually, allowing Winter to stand on its own while still belonging to the greater seasonal rhythm.
Materials and Process
Freeform crochet using a layered combination of wool, yarn, and textured novelty fibers. Constructed without a pattern, the piece was built intuitively, allowing symbolism, tension, and material response to guide the form. Each section was worked slowly to create depth, contrast, and movement within the circular structure.
