Mother’s Garden (2024)

am the garden that remembers.

Beneath a sky of color, the sun opens at the center of vision. I see without judgment. I witness without fear. I hold the quiet knowing that life grows in cycles, not in lines.

Around me bloom the flowers of becoming. Each petal holds time, patience, and care. Each ring marks connection. Each stitch anchors memory into form.

Grass rises at my edge, soft but persistent. Growth does not shout. It unfolds.

I am Mother’s Garden. I am life in motion. I am nature worn close.

Mother’s Garden is a mixed media freeform crochet hat created in 2024 using thin hand dyed wool yarn, embedded metal rings, and a vintage African trade bead. The design centers around a radiant symbolic sun positioned at the third eye, representing awareness, intuition, and inner sight.

Across the surface, layered floral forms grow outward, symbolizing nature’s cycles, renewal, and the gift of life itself. Textural grass grows along the brim, grounding the piece in earth and organic movement.

This piece took approximately 45 hours to complete due to the extremely small, dense stitches and layered construction. The hat is lightweight, flexible, warm, and fully covers the ears while maintaining sculptural dimension.

Mother’s Garden is a wearable meditation on growth, memory, and the living intelligence of nature.
