I created War in April 2025. He is one of my first spirit masks. I made him during a time when constant media messaging had me convinced that World War III was imminent. I was filled with fear. I worried that my sons would be called to fight wars that served corporate and political interests rather than humanity.
This mask is not a celebration of war. It is a resistance to it.
The cat is fierce and alert, embodying the instinct to protect one’s family and future. The stripes are the colors of battle and blood — a reminder of the real cost of global conflict. The eyes burn with oranges and yellows, signaling urgency, vigilance, and the fire of survival. Inside the ears, the blue of the sky represents higher thought, awareness, and the possibility of peace — even in moments of collective fear.
This spirit mask is my refusal to accept war as inevitable.

Care & Display
This piece is intended for display only and should be handled gently.
To preserve the integrity of the hand-dyed wool and needle-felted surface, keep away from moisture, direct sunlight, and excessive humidity. Colors may naturally soften over time if exposed to prolonged light.
Display indoors in a dry, stable environment. If dust accumulates, gently remove using a soft brush or a clean, dry cloth. Do not wash or submerge.
When not on display, store flat or upright in a breathable container, away from pressure, heat, or pests.
