I made this purse in September 2024 as a meditation on movement, memory, and looking outward while carrying what we need close. The wet-felted wool body forms a soft but sturdy foundation—ancient material shaped through patience and repetition.
The front is slow-stitched with recycled sari silk, beads, and embroidered metal rings. Each ring holds cotton fabric in blues and golds, intentionally reminiscent of porthole windows gazing out over water. For me, the ocean symbolizes vastness, surrender, and the promise of forward motion even when the body remains still.
The interior is fully lined with fabric and includes a hand-embroidered pocket. Crochet edges the opening and forms the strap, while the closure is a vintage button from a collection my mother once gifted me—an anchor of personal history stitched into the present.
