Garden Under the Sun

I was born from experiment and devotion to process.

My body was laid out by hand, wool stretched over a resist and coaxed into form with water, movement, and time. I carry the warmth of hand-dyed orange and yellow merino, shaped into a sun that radiates outward, stitched and felted into being.

My flowers were grown slowly—needle felted, embroidered, layered with care. My grass was pressed into place strand by strand. Inside, I was lined, stitched, and reinforced by hand before my edges were crocheted directly into the marks left behind by embroidery.

I am not rushed. I am not replicated. I exist as proof of learning, faith, and hands discovering what they are capable of making.

Garden Under the Sun was created in April 2024 during a period of deep experimentation and skill building. This piece came from a series of purses I made while teaching myself wet felting and wool dyeing, where the focus was on process rather than narrative perfection.

The body of the bag is hand-dyed merino wool, wet felted over a resist. The sun motif is formed by embroidered lines radiating from a stitched circular ring. The flowers combine needle felting and embroidery, while the grass is entirely needle felted.

The interior is fully lined with wool fabric and hand sewn using embroidery stitches, which then became the foundation for a crocheted edge and button closure. The strap is crocheted by hand and sewn securely to the bag. Every step—from fiber preparation to final button placement—was done by hand.

While the piece is process-driven, the symbolism remains consistent with my broader body of work: the sun as God, and the garden as Eden.
