This early Broken Heart, created in February 2025, marks a period of intense experimentation with texture, structure, and conceptual form. The piece is entirely needle felted by hand, without any internal form or resist, allowing the wool to dictate its own tension and fracture.
The black outer sections are interrupted by silk-outlined bars that feel restrictive and architectural. Between them, highly textured, multicolored wool emerges. It suggests an interior revealed through force rather than choice. The red heart appears to collide with the black exterior, shattering it like a windowpane struck from within.
This piece represents a turning point in my felted work: where concept and material became inseparable.
