Yarrow
Spring is arriving in full force now. Today I found one of my favorite medicinal plants, Yarrow, emerging in the center of a forest path. Right now the young leaves form a small feathery rosette close to the ground. In a few weeks she will stretch upward and produce her tiny white pungent flowers.
For centuries Yarrow has been known as a healer’s plant. It was carried by travelers and warriors for protection and used to treat wounds in the field. In folk magic it is associated with courage, protection, and strengthening the spirit.
Seeing these first leaves return each spring always feels like a quiet signal that the healing plants are waking up again and the earth itself is stirring back to life.
