Motherwort
This is an exciting time in nature. New motherwort is sprouting at the base of last year’s plant. This hardy mama dies back above ground in winter, but the root crown survives and sends up new leaves as soon as the weather warms.
Motherwort is a prominent ingredient in my spring tea. It is a member of the mint family and is known as a traditional heart and nervous system herb. It can help calm anxiety, support circulation, and ease stress related heart palpitations.
Later in the season this plant will grow several feet tall and produce rings of small flowers along the stem. These blooms are an important food source for butterflies and bees.
