The Crossroads (2024)
I am a meeting place.
At my center rests a bone button with brass inlay. Its form creates a crossing within the circle, a place where paths meet and direction becomes clear.
Around that center I carry a red ring and a blue crescent made from recycled sari silk. The circle gathers energy inward while the colors hold movement and memory.
Small watchful eyes sit at my sides. They guard the crossing.
Below me a glass bead and sari silk tassel move with the rhythm of the wearer.
I rest over the heart so the wearer remembers courage, voice, and the strength to choose a path.
———————————————————————————————-
I created The Crossroads as part of my Third Eye Series of 2024.
The four inch circular pendant is built around an antique bone button with brass inlay. The structure of the button forms a cross within the circle, which immediately suggested the idea of a crossroads.
Around the center I wrapped recycled sari silk. A red ring and a blue crescent frame the bone center and draw the eye inward.
The composition reminded me of the strong circular geometry found in Hopi visual language where direction, movement, and orientation hold meaning.
Two small side tassels hold glass evil eye beads that act as watchful guardians.
The necklace cord is macrame hemp with peach jasper beads, resin skull beads, and a lampwork glass bead with small faces. A round glass bead anchors the sari silk tassel beneath the pendant.
The necklace is designed so the pendant rests directly over the heart as a talisman for strength, courage, and voice.
